some thermo-whatever guy (with a big paycheck no doubt) told us that we should introduce the siesta, because that would be a good idea.

But looking at people living around the Mediterranean I get the idea that his proposal already worked there for centuries.  Serious

I lived in Doha Qatar for a few years.  My understanding there was a law that when the summer temp hit 50 Celsius (122 F.) workers were not permitted to work outdoors.  Yes, the summer temps hit or exceeded 50 C, that is why Western expats and Qatari families left the country starting in May.  I found it interesting when viewing weather forecast for Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, the UAE, only Qatar never posted summer temperatures.  If no one knew what the summer temperature's where, I suppose the poor third world workers could continue working outdoors.
