Here is a 1954 Dodge custom pickup with what appears to be a mid-50's Ford step side short box. Given the stance and outstanding paint.........

I decided to make some slight, but hopefully attractive edits, just to see what they look like.

As found:

54 Dodge PU Custom PS1x (1)

Mild dechroming, removed the unsightly exterior door hinge and changed the grill:

54 Dodge PU Custom PS1x (2)

Frenched the headlights, stripped the bumpers and modified the rear fender to close up the wheel opening. Also altered both the front and rear wheel openings:

54 Dodge PU Custom PS1x (3)

Back to standard headlights, slimmed the bumpers, changed the grill, moved new signals under the headlights and slightly modified the front fender wheel opening:

54 Dodge PU Custom PS1x (4)

Modified the grill, brought the front bumper up a bit and extended the box/wheelbase:

54 Dodge PU Custom PS1x (5)

Stripped the bumpers:

54 Dodge PU Custom PS1x (6)

For some reason, I just like this truck and most of the modifications.

What do you think?

Enjoy!

Pic #5 for me.  Prefer the grille design and thinner bumper.  I generally not a fan of roof chops but this one could use a couple of inches...not too much.

For me; unquestionably, #3. The Frenched-in headlights, sans bumper look and short bed scream Hot Rod! I like every one of the six pics but LOVE #3!!

To think up these various modifications is remarkably admirable my dear friend!!  Wink

I like the as found with the signature hood ridge as it gives the truck identity.

@jack-dodds: Jack, that's one area that I failed to try but your observation made me curious, so:

3" Chop:

54 Dodge PU Custom PS1x (5a)

6" Chop:

54 Dodge PU Custom PS1x (5c)

Which one do you prefer?

@bob-jackman: Not having viewed the stock '54 Dodge pickup, I didn't realize the hood was a two-piece with flip-up sides. The center strip does give it identity, Bob, but I prefer the cleaner, one-piece hood. Thanks for commenting.

@tldaly I would say that 3" chop is just about right Terry!

@perrone1: You and Jack got me to messing around a bit more and I came up with this final edit. It's the no-bumper truck with frenched lights, the grill I prefer, a 3" chop and the longer bed. What say ye? Jack?

I think your final version needs a 6in chop.
