Certainly could be Photo Shopped Chav, but it is amazing how many police departments have Smart cars for community public relations etc. The one shown in the post has been circulating on the internet for a few years. No Smart car would seriously be used as a patrol car.
@david-green I did pretty thorough image search on "smart sheriff car Texas" and nothing came, IMHO a Smart police car would be a bad publicity for a Texas police department.
i suspect you are right Chav. However, up here in Canada, both the RCMP and OPP (Ontario Provincia Police), both tough outfits, have used Smart cars at car shows and for community outreach. Texas might feel the need to protect their macho image and stick to large American vehicles.
Factually, the Smart cars are used for patrol. They have replaced the 3-wheel scooters that have been in use forever.
They don't have a siren for obvious reasons, but scooter patrol districts are smaller, areas...South Street Seaport, for instance, where scooters have been used exclusively.
Found an article that Bexar county was testing Can-Am Spyders (cannot access the text of the article), perhaps they were testing Smarts too, and then they erased all the evidence ... Can-Am Spyder looks much more macho.

Chav, maybe this is the "Smart" program you are referring to. "
SAN ANTONIO — Bexar County leaders want to expand a program aimed at helping people with mental health issues.
The county says its SMART Program, which stands for Specialized Multidisciplinary Alternate Response Team, could help hundreds of people without getting officers involved."
