I LIKE BOTH!  The contrast in just one years design, tells the story of the fifties perfectly.

Oldsmobile 1957
Oldsmobile 1958

I can't believe the change in just one year and not for the better IMO.

I agree Bob....a capital B behemoth.  But....still great to see at car shows due to the era it represents.

Jack, I agree with you about seeing the '58 at summer car shows.  They are rare, so when one is spotted it always draws a huge audience and lots of conversation.  In my opinion that also makes a car a classic.  I've no doubt that, if one of us were to park one in our driveway or buzz around the neighborhood in it, every head who sees it would be excited.

My Dad owned a '58 Ninety-Eight when I was 7 years old, and I was in awe with it.  I know that's part of the reason I like them today.

I like both of them, too ! A neighbor had a big 1958 Oldsmobile in gleaming black. A good looking automobile and I am happy to have some 1957 Olds I/18 from Highway 61 and Yat Ming.

I have three of the 1:18 scale '57's.  Only because I like the '57.  If the mints would have given us the '57 and the '58 in 1:24 scale, I'd surely would have need medical attention.  I'd buy as many different colors that they could have put them out in.

@georgeschire George, it was nice of the mints to save you from a medical condition.

You may not have the models to show, but you could also add the 1959 to show significant year-to-year changes from 1957 to 1959.  In addition to Oldsmobile, this also applies to Chevrolet, Pontiac, and Buick.

You make a great point about the '59 also being 180 degrees different from both the '57 and '58.  That's what made Planned Obsolescence so much fun with our 50's and 60's cars.  NEW WAS NEW every year, not the same old styling for several years running.  We all know how ho-hum that is!

Love - hate relationship, love the '57, hate the '58. Indifferent for the '59 - '61, love the '62, like the '63, just don't care for any other year Olds styling.

I'm a 54, 55, 56, 57, 58, and 59 guy for the fifties.  Then for the sixties I like the 62, 63, and 64.  Moving to the end of the 60's and in to the 70's, the 4-4-2's really excite me.
