It may look pretty, but that's where it ends for me. We've gotten rain turning to ice, then snow. More snow and then more after that. Blowing and brisk out before the snow (is supposed to) stop falling this evening with below zero temps predicted through next week. On Wednesday next week, more snow is forecasted leading in to the Christmas weekend.Â

Right! My best friend lives in Florida but grew up in Michigan. He's been thinking about returning to Michigan. I don't think Michigan gets as bad as Minnesota, but you can imagine what I tell him, "Are you nuts!"Â (....it appears he may now settle for Tennessee).
Growing up on Long Island we did not see a lot of snow, and then moving to South Carolina, we hardly see snow, so when it does, I welcome it to enjoy with my kids, as it is a day to just stay home and relax. Too many people thinking they know how to drive in it and you know what happens. But here it is usually just 1-2 days and then it is gone. I do not know if I could handle snow on the ground for as long as you guys get it. But again your state is equipped to handle it.
I'd hate to be your mailman! A big plus is that you don't have to mow the lawn every week like I do. On the flip side, you have a beautiful view during the spring and summer months.

Thing is Pete, I don't mind cutting the lawn, because when I'm done, it is done for another week. And when done, I see the nice lines that a mowed lawn provide after being cut. But with snow, you can shovel and then a couple of hours later, you have to shovel again. With this current storm, since yesterday morning I've shoveled 9.75 inches and it's still coming down as I type this. This snow is the heavy water filled snow, that is not fun to shovel. Â

I've always shaken my head at the overall general mindset of people in Minnesota. When it's sunny and warm in the summer, many will complain that it's too hot and too humid, thus finding the comfort of their air-conditioned home. Then when the winter comes around with its mountains of snow, ice, clouds, and very cold temperatures, they will again complain and seek exotic warmer climate vacations to Florida, California, Hawaii, Arizona and other nicer climates. Just makes no sense to me. Never has! As our summer turns to autumn and then to winter, they will be clamoring for it to snow. Then when it does, they complain about how awful it is. It's just nutty thinking I've never been able to figure out. My guess is they aren't happy no matter what and would likely complain if they were hung with a new rope.Â

Moving to the south 35 years ago was a blessing not having to put up with snow and ice but like everything there are trade offs. The long summers with high humidity can wear me down. I'm sure that age has something to do with that.

Pete, I WAS a mailman in Fairbanks Alaska 1965-1973 and got so tired of fighting snow and cold I was able to get a transfer to Dallas Texas, I've never regretted that decision.

Born and raised in Mpls. And finally left for the warmer climes of Phx.Az. In 1968. Never minded living in Minn. in the winter but having to work in it really sucked🤣
loved the hunting and fishing!

You wouldn't want to live in Minneapolis today. The city is overrun with gun-toting hoodlums and the police force is unable to keep the peace. Every morning, we wake up to another shooting or two or three. Seriously, I'm not lying! Most major stores and bigger businesses have closed their doors. The mayor of the city and the city counsel are completely ill-equipped to be running a major metropolitan city. I absolutely refuse to even drive down a street over there. People are hit by stray bullets regularly. Â

I lived in Conn. 56 years and retired to N.H. not that I like cold & snow but I could not take the heat until I was 70 and the cold started getting to me. But I have prepared for most things, a 4 wheel drive tractor with a great snow blower. I have not shoveled in many years. Crime in my area is some of the lowest in the country. People here complain of the cold as they stand by the fire, go to their heated car, to the heated store. While people down south go from their air conditioned home to their AC car to the ACed store and complain how hot it is.
I must admit N.C. weather looks good to me now. But I am a damn New England Yankee moving anyplace south now would be like moving to a foreign country.
