We probably wouldn't even be saying it now if it wasn't for the insurance companies and litigation. I do however, like to think that we were smarter.
@david-green, though I agree with you about the insurance companies and litigation, I for sure 100% believe we were smarter.

Speak for yourselves you guys...I know for a fact I was a complete moron. Lol.
I was NOT a moron when I was young. I've always believed that people are born with common sense or they're not. I've always doubted that common sense can be learned. Too many adults seem to be prone to doing stupid things.

I remember my father being a moron until I was about 23 and then he became the wisest man I ever knew.

OMG, that is so funny. When my oldest daughter was out of college for two years, she told me that I had gotten smarter as I was getting older.
I advised her that it was she who was getting smarter, that she recognized that her old dad wasn't as dumb as she once thought he was.

@georgeschire: I wasn't a moron, when younger. I've been a moron all my life and I'm getting better at it, as I age. Were you really that perfect, when younger, George?

My favourite version of this home truth is that most seventeen year-olds think their father is the stupidest person in the whole world. When they are 20 they start to wonder how the old guy got so damned smart in just three years.

Without it sounding like I'm boasting, YES, I think I can say that I was never a moron. Perfect? Well no one is perfect, but there is a difference between being a moron and being perfect. As a teenager, I can truthfully say that I never got in to trouble, I never broke the law, I didn't drink or do drugs, and I obeyed the rules and laws that I was asked to.
If that makes me perfect, then I guess I was. I always had and still do have respect for my elders and law enforcement. And without going in to any graphic detail, I can assure you that as a teenager, I had many reasons that I could have used to take the wrong road in life. But I've always believed it's a choice and I think as I reflect back on my life, I made the right choices.

LOL, I think you nailed the truth of going from a kid to adulthood...for most. And then, there are those that just seem to miss the ball every time it comes their way.
