Unfortunately, I suspect there are a lot of people around who need this kind of information just to keep them on the right track. (The same kind of people who buy a coffee in a cup that says "Warning - contents may be hot" and think "Gee, should I sue these guys or just ask for a refund?").

I was in Greece for an extended time several years ago. They were building a new home next to the one where we were staying. It had a second-floor entrance and steps leading up to the main door. I noticed there were no railings. When I asked our landlord why, he said they don't need them. He said, 'In America, this would be a lawsuit right away. Here, if you fall off the steps and try to take the owner to court, the judge says, 'Why did you go so close to the edge?' and sends everyone home. Our courts don't have time for nonsense."

Whoa....pretty unforgiving for some poor soul who makes an honest mistake, or has a health issue or a child just being a child.
