Interesting John. Record draught in the west and record rains in the south.
I remember visiting the lake in 1984, our guide told us to "hold on to your hat" beyond the next corner .....or you may loose it because of strong winds..
Many hats were lost, though, lost forever in the (then) deep waters...
Thanks. I expected a drop in Lake Mead, but was surprised by the magnitude. It should be a concern to everyone living in the southwest part of US. I also liked the part about the B-29 at the bottom of the lake. I have seen a couple of B-29s in person, one at the National Museum of the Air Force in Dayton Ohio and one at the EAA convention in Oshkosh Wisconsin. The second one is named "Fifi", is one of the two flying B-29s. I have always been interested in World War Two airplanes, and have several diecast models of them (and a few jet planes) in 1/72 scale and 1/48 scale. I will limit my airplane comments, since I do not know if the other forum readers have much interest in them.

Phoenix is expecting some water rationing in the near future. We live in Sun City West and our whole community is dependent upon 10 wells that are maintained by a private water company.
One problem with ground water is that if the water is not replaced naturally by snow melt then as the wells decrease in depth a sink hole is created above them. Not only that, as the water level decreases, the contaminant level increases causing the water quality to decrease.
