Anytime I see Miniatur Wunderland   I always think this must've been what it was like for the professional "rock star"  guitarists seeing Jimi Hendrix for the first time in the 1960's.   Many of them thought, "Well, I guess I need to find something else to do."

That layout and this latest attraction is next-level modeling  & scale reproduction; It's very intimidating.

Maybe they chose Monaco because most of the time overtaking is almost impossible there, so they didn't have to try and simulate anything that tricky on the layout. Mind you, I imagine they'll figure out how to do that sooner or later! Very impressive.

p.s. (10 minutes later). I went looking online and found this video of testing

Current Status of the Monaco Formula 1 Circuit at the Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg, Germany. : r/formula1

and another video by the designer of the layout showing the insane amount of technology behind the whole thing. Unfortunately it is in German but you can skip through and get the general idea from the images.

Formula 1: Longest test drive in Monaco | Gerrit’s Diary #83 | Miniatur Wunderland - YouTube

There are other videos from Wunderland describing the development process in hi-tech detail - again in German - and it seems that because the cars are controlled by magnets under the tracks (rather than running in fixed slots) they CAN in fact do overtaking, pitstops etc.

And it is all in 1:87 scale.

@perrone1 I agree Tony. While looking at this my eye wandered to all of the yachts in the harbor. Everything they do is fantastic.

That is amazing.  I had the pleasure to see the train layout in person back in the 80's.  It was impressive then, I'm sure now it is even more so.  I am editing this response as once I started looking at their website, the did not start building until 2000's.  I was in Hamburg in the 80's with one of my German business counterparts and they took me to a old bombed out building that had partially been renovated to except the layout that they had created.  It had flying planes, cars moving around etc and naturally all the different trains.  Being a HO scale train modeler at the time I was in awe.  So I apparently had seen something else that was as impressive as this but not on this grand scale.
