My mirror is haunted. Every time I look into it, some old guy looks back at me.

Mine too John. I have owned my Corvette for 50 years and when I bought it there was a young guy looking back at me.
Everything is relative ...
"Mirrors don't lie." is questionably a true statement, after all they always show a mirror (flipped) image of the object stating at them. In fact, "Mirrors always lie." may be considered a more accurate statement.
Mirrors only see the surface, put some makeup ... perhaps the mirror is no longer laughing; but is it lying now?
My mirrors are excellent companions, they always laugh with me, but once in a while I catch them throwing a sarcastic smile at me.

That's why they are called rear-view mirrors. As long as you drive it, Bob, the young guy will always be in the mirror.
My bathroom mirrors are kind; they steam up as I emerge from the shower.
