(In my opinion) there was no FIFTIES American automobile more beautifully gorgeous than the 1956 CADILLAC.

It oozed with style and elegance.

Beautiful Cadillac without a doubt, George, but to my eye, this is the best styled car of the 50s:

Amazing how our eyes see different things.  When I look at your Chrysler, I see an older persons car that already looks stodgy and dated.  While the '56 Cadillac looks new, rich, and royal.

Here's an off-the-wall choice, the 1954-55 Kaiser Manhattan, with its sidekick, the Kaiser Darrin.

'57 Thunderbird

'56 Lincoln Premiere

'57 Cadillac series 62

'57 DeSoto

In that order.

Too many beautifully styled cars of the '50s.....for me it's impossible to pick just one. Since I'm a long time Corvette fan I have to include the '56 - '57 Corvette.

1956 Corvette 20

We can all add different photos.  The beauty is all in the eyes of the beholder.

I love the 507 and the 300 SL but that Ferrari Frank chose captures my heart. All three designs are clean and pure. They convey a clear message, "This car is made for driving pleasure and excitement."

George, I'll give you a specific reason why, to my eye, it's the Cadillac that looks dated: it's got that tall, bulbous hoodline standing high above the front fenders vs. the Chrysler's much lower, sleeker hood height.

P.S. That's a '55 New Yorker, mine is a Windsor.

Great topic, by the way!

If I had to choose only one car and as much I love Cadillacs, I'd select the 1956 Lincoln Premiere as the most beautiful & elegant automobile of the 1950s, especially in convertible and coupe versions.

One common theme seems to be the single headlights as apposed to dual which show up a lot in 58.

My four favorite cars of the fifties in no particular order are:

1956 Lincoln Premier

1955 Chrysler

1953 Buick Skylark

1953 Studebaker hardtop or coupe.
