Dangerous sport. I've been in a regular boat that has done that trick and it's scary as hell. I can't imagine what it would feel like to do it on purpose (over and over again) at speed. A driver could be the most experienced in every aspect, but is no real match for the fickleness of the water.

I've been throttle man once or twice. It's incredibly difficult and extraordinarily physical.
My time at the throttle was as a lark with some friends that had a Scarab. It was fun but totally brutal. Tom, you must have been in great shape to do it regularly.
