A new movie is supposed to come out soon, but it's hard to tell if it's a horror story or a comedy ! It stars a 1940 Ford truck and a beautiful, yet extremely tall and blessed, young gal.
There were many very cool sci-fi movies done back in the day, and, as you point out, done without benefit (?) of CGI or digitally added special FX. One can go as far back as circa 1931's "King Kong", and early Thirties "Dracula" and "The Shape of Things to Come" and into the 1950's with "War of the Worlds", "Forbidden Planet", "Earth vs the Flying Saucers" , "Invaders From Mars" and "This Island Earth".
At the risk of appearing to be a name dropper, I've always felt that a Gotttfried Huppertz musical score really enhanced the intensity of any Fritz Lang sci-fi movie of the Roaring 20s.
@jack-dodds I've been searching my papers for a movie I saw but cannot confirm the tittle of so I can't even 'name drop'! I believe it was Georg Jacoby's 1924 Komodianten des Lebens (Comedians of Life). It was a silent movie but had a grand piano on the stage in front of the screen, upon which the original score was played. The music was extraordinary and at certain points, the pianist reached into the body of the piano with his left hand and plucked the strings as though it were an harp whilst continuing to play the keys with his right. Unbelievable ! ! ! Weimar art was truly avant guard. (The story line is that of a local Mayor who through a series of mishaps, falls from authority and public esteem to end up serving in a men's lavatory where ultimately he dies. Though a U.S. release tagged a happy ending onto the end )
CORRECTION: He's not a Mayor, but the head doorman of an hotel but wears an official uniform and it is to the hotel's lavatory he is demoted!
Back in '58 you could have been a set designer or even creator of a new genre of sci-fi porn! Great image and graphics!
Truth be known; what triggered the anger of the 50 Foot Woman was that she just did not like the Chryco Forward Look and sought to eradicate it.
Perhaps she was a G.M. agent?
Rumor at the time connected her to Rambler who, knowing her soft spot for the underdog, apparently snapped her up after Packard laid her off. If you watch her movie you will notice she never destroys one Rambler. Btw...the GM agents were all busy working undercover on the Chryco fit and finish assembly line.
