No, not THAT great Packard dreamcar but this earlier Packard sports-type automobile. I forget but I may have posted this before. In any case, it is a picture of a Packard concept in the photo-studio, perhaps at East Grand in Detroit. It looks very nice and would have made a cool addition to their line-up.

I've seen hundreds of Packard photos but don't recall ever seeing this one.  I applaud their efforts-trying to rival Cadillac's 2-dr HT no doubt but wow.... it's pretty ugly.  Of course, Packard in the late 1940's was flush with cash, so why not experiment a bit.    In 1949 they celebrated their golden anniversary.

The small roof sitting on that fat body just don't make it in my book.

The panoramic rear glass speaks to me of Studebaker's Starlight Coupe (ironically).  I wonder if the light and dark tones being reversed might help, by making the roof less apparent in comparison to the bulky body?

Another fabulous old piece Mike! I like the 2-dr concept. I agree with Bob and Charles though, the roof needs a re-style. Wider rear pillar maybe while keeping the rear greenhouse effect.

Interesting.......something seems out of proportion though.  Perhaps by narrowing  the massive chrome strip by one third and going with a single body color it might present better.

Interesting. It's clearly a concept, one in which they were trying an idea out. Obviously, Packard was considering a hardtop. It would have been interesting to see what an actual production model would have looked like.

That's true, John. Packard was obviously just trying out a two-door or sports coupe type of concept on a shorter body here. It is an interesting idea and clearly had various additional stages to go through before any decisions or even production ideas were more developed. Also, we are only looking at here a straight side-on view of this idea and even a three-quarters view may give a different impression .... as would a reduction or even elimination of the side-trim.
