Wow...this Scotsman is even wider than Harv's Dinky Packard!  Wink

The Scotsman is sure a very bare bones unit but served its utility purpose, inexpensive car role very well.

@perrone1 Tony, I recall this car from way back when...they also had a pickup version.

@sizedoesmatter

I enjoyed reading about it and actually like the car itself. But from back then, the only Scotsman I recall is this song:

@sizedoesmatter John; I didn't know about the pickup version; don't recall ever seeing one but they may not have sold them in Canada.

It is amazing that such a utility grade sedan would have survived; not exactly one that would ever be considered worthy of preservation for its beauty.  Obviously it's cool that this example did though; very few exist I'm sure.

Here's an article that provides pics of more details on a Scotsman, including the interior.

@jkuvakas The word back in the day was that when a person bought one of these new, Studebaker included a free set of bagpipes (bladder covering matching seat covers) placed in the trunk.

OK, I'm here in Australia, where in fact Studebakers were quite popular but I've never heard of this car or project. Yet:

"Priced below the competition from $1,776 (equal to $20,359 today) for the two-door sedan, Scotsman sales were projected at 4,000 cars for the short 1957 model year. In fact, over 9,000 were sold—not only to frugal or low-budget customers but also to wealthy notables such as former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt.[citation needed] For, despite its austerity, the Scotsman delivered exceptional value and economy."

Interesting how motoring history is somewhat selective. Fortunately we have John B to overcome this!

@jack-dodds, now we know why Studebaker struggled to survive!

@jkuvakas Yes indeed JK; Studebaker's overture was well intended but it turned out to be one of their bladder ideas; financially it almost kilt them even earlier.
