Fantastic choice, again this time, John!

I always thought this was a great alternative to the Chrysler Corporation's Prowler. A '50-ish Chevy pickup with modern bits & pieces. A little retro goes a long way. Cool machine and a great history.

Thanks John!

Very likely a future collector car.

@jack-dodds I wanted this one in the worst way when it showed up, I couldn’t possibly afford it. This one was to me at least a close cousin, albeit a much less impressive but much more affordable one. I purchased one just like this one and was very, very happy with it. HHR Panel

@kevins I think the panel version is kind of funky.

@jack-dodds Totally Dude! (See how I turned a negative to a positive?) I actually toyed with the idea of turning it into a pickup but realized pretty quick that I don’t do bodywork and couldn’t afford to have it done. Now that would have been good funky!

The SSR was a cool idea that never quite caught on. It was a little late for the retro craze. Still, I like it! And I agree, it will be a future collectible.

another really interesting selection, thanks John. Personally I cant see it as 'retro' anything in particular. In some instances its obvious, Camaros, Mustangs etc but I cant find anything here. Happy to have something pointed out!

Geoff, I see the SSR as a retro 1947-1955 first series Chevrolet 3100 pick-up. This truck was also referred to as the Chevrolet Advance Design. Below is a pic.

@geoff-jowett Geoff, I agree with you. I see the idea but I think the idea was too far away from the intended target. To my eye, The Mustang and Challenger hit the target  and the sales confirmed that.

Geoff, I just asked AI "What does the Chevrolet SSR suppose to represent?" and the answer is "The Chevrolet SSR (Super Sport Roadster) was intended to be a tribute to the classic Chevy pickup trucks of the 1940s and 1950s, while also representing GM's future.

Explanation
  • The SSR was a two-seater convertible truck with a retro style and a hardtop roof.

  • The SSR's front end was inspired by the Chevrolet Advance Design pickups of the late 1940s and 1950s.

  • The SSR was designed to be a hybrid between a car and a truck, with a sedan-style cab and a narrow truck bed.

  • The SSR was intended to be a halo vehicle that would showcase GM's new philosophy of "Be fast, be flexible and be first".

The SSR was produced from 2003 to 2006, and fewer than 25,000 were made. Its limited production and retro look make it a desirable collector's item."
