Am I the only one on the forum that likens this matchup to a ‘Ugliest Dog’ contest?
I choose Mercury. Very nicely styled and a K.O. in that color combo.
They are both beautiful 1950's American full-size coupes and I like them each and the Dodge notably with the D-500 V-8 engine option. I am delighted to have several 1/18 diecast replicas of the '56 Mercury automobiles and when I was a kid, I had a prized 1/25 promo of the 1956 Dodge.
The 55 and 56 are the only Mercurys I like from the 50s. The only Chrysler in 56 I like is the Plymouth.
Back in the day, that Merc was THE car. 'Hot Stuff' as they used to say. The Dodge wasn't seen too much in my area, so it was way later on before it was appreciated. But that Montclair!! If you were seen in one - you were a Super Star! (Even if they didn't use that term back then - and they didn't.)
I went with the Dodge. The Mercury is too much IMO.
Retired in Dunedin, Florida.
I like the Dodge. It has fins but a short body.
The 55/56 Merc has always been a favorite for me, although I really like both, it's da Merc.😁
Mopar had some great looking vehicles in the mid fifties, so I went with the Dodge.
Like both but the Mercury wins for me. I prefer the 55 Dodge over the 56 which would have made it a tie for me.
Mercury today. I think the '55 and '56 Mercs were the best looking of the decade.
Mercury was a good car but I liked the style of the Dodge just a little better.
For me no car beats the Mercury in '56. The Dodge was all right but, did not come close to the Mercury. Love the Mercury '53 to '56.
