@david-green I recall that many people disliked the Mercury grille but I thought it was cool; it seemed to have a bit of a sinister expression to my eye.
These are not getting any easier! Thanks for another great comparo, John. I never cared for the "skegs" on the Olds and Caddies of this vintage. But, in a very close vote, I went with the Olds.
The Olds for me. I restored a 61 Starfire several years ago and loved that car. Mine had every option available including power windows, power vent windows, facrory A/C, speed control, signal seek radio with foot control, power antenna on the right rear fender, Autronic Eye auto headlight dimmer, power drivers bucket seat, power trunk release and rear air suspension which I replaced with coil springs.
MERCURY! Even though Mercury was back to sharing the Ford body, it looks way better than the pointy fender Oldsmobile. 1961 with the exception of Chevy, was NOT a good year styling wise to my eyes for General Motors. They corrected this in 1962.
