No, did not flunk, thankfully. That would have been embarrassing. Actually did most of my learning on my dad’s 55 Chevy Bel Air but took the test on the 56 Dodge.
I realized you passed because you said you got your license. Just wondered if that meant you wouldn't have if you drove a 55.No, did not flunk, thankfully. That would have been embarrassing. Actually did most of my learning on my dad’s 55 Chevy Bel Air but took the test on the 56 Dodge.
I drove Mom's 1960 Cadillac to my driving test (in 1962). I flunked for going too slow in the serpentine course!!
The next week I tossed that yacht around that same course like it was a dinghy, and passed! True story!
The 1960 Cadillac is pretty hefty to throw around a serpentine track. I can see why you were cautious and provided an excuse for the examiner. My examiner’s trick was to take the testee up a fairly steep hill and have them stop, then start again without slipping backwards. Awkward with a column 3 speed shifter. I had been warned by a friend who failed and practiced that until I got it right before doing the test. As it turned out, the 1956 Dodge was an automatic so no problem anyway.
Cool. I was unaware of the speed I was supposed maintain in that specific part of the test until we were done. The officer just said, "too slow in serpentine." I fixed that the following week. And your guy was just tricksy!!The 1960 Cadillac is pretty hefty to throw around a serpentine track. I can see why you were cautious and provided an excuse for the examiner. It's the '55 Dodge for me...prefer the color and the lack of fins.
Gents, thanks for your responses.
