Sad story: My in-laws close friends Brad & Mary lived down the street and were visiting Christmas eve. Time to go home Brad decided he wanted some fresh air and would walk home leaving Mary to driver the car home. Brad got run over by Mary backing out of the driveway. He died. True story, swear to God. So the kids would sing the song but substituted Brad for Grandma and Mary for reindeer. We felt terrible for them but the kids and the song was kinda funny. The in-laws didn't think so, good life long friend run over in their driveway.

@chris Really!!! About 30+ years ago.
To ease Mary's guilt they say Brad probably slipped and fell down behind the car and being frail probably could not get up with any speed and Mary not seeing any one behind her just backed up, but no one actually knew. Both in their late 60's at the time.
