Yes. I worked part time for a Texaco station in 56 through 58. Kids used to ride their bikes over the hoses to hear the bell ring.
I also worked in a Texaco station as a kid and sure do remember the "dinger". Man did I ever love that environment!
I remember them well. I also worked in two gas stations in high school.

Absolutely. My Dad owned a Gulf station out on Long Island. I worked their from 72 until he sold it in 75. Great memories for me.
It would appear most of us worked with a dinger at some point, me too.
It is really amazing how the service station experience stays with a person. For me it's the sounds of the dinger, the similar sound of the tire air machine, air wrench guns, the crack of the acetylene torch firing up, tire changer machine and the "pop" when the bead set, gas and oil smells of course, spiking the spout into the oil cans, the old style pop machine, the rubber tire surrounded ash trays on the counter, the clatter of the cash register, certain remarkable cars and customers in the neighborhood, the friendly "jobbers" dropping in to sell or restock their products; getting to wear the Texaco jacket......it was great! Back when gas jockeys did the windows, checked the oil and tire pressure and air was free.............the good old days.
@jack-dodds Jack you have just put into words all of the familiar sounds I remember so well. I still have the ashtray with the rubber tire.
I worked at a self serve station while attending jr college. I'll always remember my sister bringing me a nice hot dinner plate of food on Sundays while I was working.
And I'll never forget the crush I had on my sister's bf Cathy Mitchell who would stop by to gas up.
