Now been retired for 25 yrs. 85 now in 4 months will be 86 never thought I would have made it this far.  Have really had the time to get to know my son now. All those yrs working two jobs while he was growing up. Guess miracles can happen. Even with some of my issues now.  I'm happy that God has given me an enjoyable retirement time.

And we're happy too! It gives us "One of My Cars" to enjoy and the shenanigans of the Fair Oaks Sunoco to enjoy and love. God Bless you Hollis - please stay well!

No kidding !! I’m a Memorial Day baby (31st) and will be 74 🙌 to us 👍

I started working part-time at various jobs when I was 13 years old. Forced into retirement at 60 years old. I didn't realize just how great retirement would be...it's underrated for sure.

Started working when I was 13 years old and retired when I was 72. Worked in a drug store when I was 15 and ended going to pharmacy school which I couldn't stand. Went in the Navy and then to work for a men's store and from there went in the ladies shoe business for a large shoe manufacturing company where I became senior vice president and general sales manager. After many years of being on airplanes and hotel rooms I left management and took a territory and finally got a life of my own. After retiring from the shoe business I bought an electric sign company until selling it after four years and developing a program with several power companies doing high energy saving lighting systems. My last year of full time work was with a friend who asked me to come to work with him in his custom swimming pool business, he had built our pool several years before that. I still stay busy on the boards of two car clubs and keeping my three collector cars in running condition. I'm 86 now and still going strong and blessed with pretty good health.

Good stories gentlemen. I retired in 1995 at age 55. Volunteered and tinkered in the computer industry for 18 months after that, then decided to travel. 97 countries up to Covid including all of Europe, South America and most of Africa and the Middle East. Australia early on. Got the most fun out of small islands like the Falklands, Shetlands, Orkneys, Faroe Islands, Iceland and more. Longest trip was about 5000 miles through Russia, Belarus, Ukraine in the mid 2000s. Started in Helsinki, ending up in Berlin. My wife did not like flying so I tended to most of this solo with my wife golfing with girlfriends in Canada and Myrtle Beach( about a month each year). It worked well for both of us.

Not quite Chris. My wife was with golfing girl buddies while I travelled solo, no girlfriends.

some great stories here guys. Hey Tony I was a paper boy around the same age here in suburban Melbourne. I worked 40+ years as a live theatre manager, in 3 venues over that time, the last for 21 years. Some great stories, met the rich and famous, and some not so famous! I retired 5 years ago, about 6 months earlier than planned because of voice problems from my second cancer, which is under control now and monitored. At 76 I'm now an active volunteer at the hospital that saved my life 14 years ago. Australia's most prominent, and globally recognised cancer hospital. Various roles, most dedicated to supporting patients and families, and tours. Tour yesterday with a visiting senior manager from an international NGO, and a while back for a group of secondary school students, who are brilliant. During the research tour part, researcher discussed how fruit flys aid cancer research. One kid asked "how do you give a fruit fly cancer?" I'm also studying for my second masters degree in a row at a local university and spend 3-4 days a week pushing weights in the local gym. And I rediscovered a hobby from 60 years ago making, model cars! I'm doing OK!

You have had an interesting career and retirement Geoff. I am a firm believer in lifetime education and I think hospital volunteering is one of the more worthwhile endeavours.

I'm just reminded of a patient I met some months back, lovely lady, there with her husband. Been a patient for 30 years and had 4 cancers, yes 4 cancers. She has the most beautiful, serene calm demeanour. I asked how does she do it. She pointed her finger towards heaven and replied, God! 

...best invention ever!

@geoff-jowett God is GRAND. He healed my cancer. An it was a blessing I didn't have to do any chemo or radiation treatments. I always held life as precious, even moreso after that. Every morning I wake up means a lot more to me.🙏💯
