I heard it on my car radio as I drove to see a friend in the hospital. When I got there, all the TV's were on and everyone was in a state of shock.

I was home from grade school that day and having a peanut butter and banana sandwich for lunch when my Grandma suddenly said "What did they just say ???" as WGN radio broke into their radio newscast.

I would've been in my cot in central Africa, and sadly it would take many, many years to learn what a great loss for all of us, this was.
