@lloyd-mecca, one thing I've learned is that we need the "Grammar Police" in today's Internet and Social Media world. Grammar and Spelling are often non-existent. Seems the English language has been tossed under the bus by many.
SO true George......it is sickening to hear most young people converse and reading their essays and such is quite disturbing to me. Texting of course exacerbates the situation.
Our oldest daughter is a grade school teacher. They no longer focus on spelling, grammar, and cursive writing in school. Is it any wonder that our kids today are clueless? I find it both sad and disturbing. Our world is digressing.
I have spoken about this to my nieces and nephews and they aren't particularly concerned about it degrading. I'm sure this is because they haven't been taught an appreciation for the English language like our generation certainly was. They use texting as their principal means of communication and tell me there is spell check on their computer so why is it so important? God help them....the school system has let them down in a very big way. They sure have been taught their rights and how their opinion is so very important though haven't they?!
Right you are my friend. The current generation is the most "know it all" generation of any I've ever seen. From about 2nd grade on, they are telling their parents, teachers, and anyone who can listen that they have rights and they don't have to do what they don't want to do. I've said often that I'm glad I'm the age I am, as I'd not want to be a part of the way things are progressing.
Our 16 year old granddaughter says she won't get the Covid shot, and her parents don't have any issue with her making that decision. Last I heard the parents are in charge until a kid is an adult. If she was my daughter, she'd have that shot in the arm as soon as it was available to her. Period.
I have always believed that children truly have an inherent need to be shown where the line is, both socially and morally. Frequently their behavior belies a strong request for it to be shown. They need a standard to adopt for themselves as they mature and without quality guidance they are bound to make some bad decisions. That's one part of what is needed from a parent to earn the respect of their child. Being their best friend and allowing them to make all decisions for themselves is a very naive and foolhardy way to parent IMHO. But I digress from the outstanding cars on the OK used lot! Lol.

We are entirely on the same page. Many of today's parents don't want to parent, and it's the kids that will suffer down the road. Sadly too, it's a Domino affect, so things are just going to get more out of whack with future generations.
