The prices of these cars then were a bargain compared to what they are worth today. Love the picture.

Back then any car that reached 101,000 miles was respected, but not worth much. And that is why most people sold their car when it hit 98,000 miles. It was a psychological phenomenon.
These days a car with 100,000 miles on can still command a five figure price which doesn't start to decline for another 50K miles or so. And a car with over 250,000 miles on it still has value.
