The educational benefit to teaching us youngsters to make other kids "eat lead" and other related mayhem was IMHO invaluable in making us into the solid citizens we turned out to be.  Thanks Mattel!  I just wish I had known about the Roy Rogers hat......would have come in handy a few times in my career.  Lol.

Boy, we sure had fun, and strangely enough, the streets were far safer back then. I remember most of these and and a friend still have a few pieces from that Lionel military train. Some of those toys seem pretty hokey now.

David;  Some of them do seem a bit hokey indeed.  My all black Paladin "gun for hire' set; including holster with pure ivory plastic horses head affixed, black hat and Paladin business cards was the real deal though.

At the risk of sounding ignint; I have to say that if Roy Rogers walked into a bar these days dressed like that he wouldn't last 30 seconds.

That most certainly did not escape my attention Jack.....it seems that when Roy lost his way, sartorially speaking, his troubles were just beginning......it all hit the fan when he was accused of promoting hide-able,spring-loaded assault weapons to children....."Hey Roy !" former fans would call out when they met him in the street, "is that a GUN in your hat,or are you just happy to see me?"......fortunately for the franchise, plans to market RR pajamas were shelved indefinitely

ok......I`m going back to my Jimmy Durante movie now (Music for Millions 1944)
