Enjoy the day folks...  and your family (if that's possible  😏 🙄)    Here's a bit of automotive trivia I did NOT know 12 hours ago (...just how that's possible, I'll never know! )

If you have leather seats in your modern car, chances are they come with heaters to help you through those cold winter months. This is the obligatory standard of the industry, but in 1966, it was a revolution. Cadillac was the first company to offer heated seats as an option for their top of the line, 1966 model year 75 Series limousine.  The credit goes to Robert L. Ballard, a General Motors employee who filed an automobile seat heater patent on April 30, 1951.

I had no idea they went back that far. I love all the 'heated' items of today's cars: Heated and cooled seats, heated outside rearview mirrors, heated rear seats and, especially my favorite, the heated steering wheel.

@perrone1 Tony I agree with you regarding the heated steering wheel. Earlier this year I bought a new car with heated steering wheel. Told my wife that was an option I felt was not needed in the south where we live. Suddenly we had a cold spell about a month ago and now I think this is the greatest option on the vehicle. I have arthritis in my hands and when they get cold they throb...within 5 minutes the heated wheel makes them warm and the pain goes away. Thanks Chris for the history lesson on the heated seats.

I have heated seats and steering wheel in my current car and in the last 4 or 5, I've never used them, same with the moon roof.

Same here Pal - arthritis in hands and the warm wheel in the winter is great.

I can relate to that John. I didn't use half the stuff some of our other cars had/have. But in the Caddy, I have everything set on 'automatic'. If it rains, the wipers come on either on intermittent on up to full, depending on the rain. Same with the hi-beams and dimmer and heated/cooled seats. If the car senses a certain temp, either the seats warm or cool. Defrost, outside mirror defrost, same thing. I guess I got used to it cause now I can just be lazy and not think about what I want. HA!

@chris Here's a little-know fun fact: Cows with wiring embedded in their skin were invented the VERY SAME YEAR!

...no one's going to brag about heated (& cooled ) cup holders?  🤔 🤔     I have an "old"  Chrysler with that feature.  My wife's last car had a diverter switch to direct frosted A/C into the glove box to keep things "chilled,"  should the need arise.   I think her new car may do that too....  🤔 🤨

@chris

Wow, Chris; that's impressive!

Not a factory option but an aftermarket vendor installed a fully-functional wet bar into my dashboard!!

Since then, I have been driving myself to drink!  Shut Mouth
