I wasn't sure which forum this would fit best, but as it concerns all scales I hoped it would be a question best asked in the Lounge.

I have compiled a list of brands I have encountered and I found some sources which listed a few as 'better than most,' and/or best, but no list provided a means by which to determine whether or not the consensus was top of the list or so/so.  I searched TDZ for such an item and did not find it, either.  So, I will post what I have here, and maybe the pros can provide a better idea of how the brands stack up in order of quality and cost.  Perhaps such a list could provide benefit for all members?

I am posting two very short lists I found, and an .rtf file with a text list of the brands I have encountered, so far.  In spite of the high praise offered for Spark, I am not that impressed with their handiwork. Style and finish are nice, but getting the overall dimensions wrong to such a degree is a deal-breaker for me.  However, this list should not be just about what I like, but how the brands actually rank against each other.

You mention Sharp when I'm sure you meant Spark. It's has been years since I added any Spark models to my collection but I have always thought they were terrific and while they were done years ago, they stand up well against today's models. I think your list is in line to my way of thinking.

I think that you have an excellent starting list here. All listed are relatively high volume producers. I have all of them in my collection and rarely are dissatisfied with my purchases. I do check quality and accuracy before purchase where possible and have eliminated occasional, Norev, Schuco, IXO and Spark, likely because they were earlier castings before computer assistance. You do not have many resin models manufacturers on your list other than Spark, also no white metal like Brooklin. Thanks for this.

@bob-jackman  You're right, I did mean Spark.  Fixed, and thank you.  Y'know, for a bunch of guys who seem to have been on this planet for a while, y'all don't let much get by you.

@bob-jackman  By 'in line' do you mean by order of quality, or 'in line' as to the list is a mostly complete one?

Here is a comprehensive list I found, though it is just alphabetical, like mine.

@david-green  Some tout the Brooklin line, but their models they seemed cumbersome, without the grace the 1:1 exhibited.

I think I'll make up an Excel file this week and see how that looks.

@gdh By in line I mean that I agree with your thoughts about these makers.

This is an ambitious project and may be found to be never-ending. Brooklin has improved greatly in the last few years. Motor City (all their brands), Conquest, Lansdowne, BAM, and a few more deserve to be on the list. So do Stamp, GIM, and Mirage (an offshoot of HPI). I'm sure there are more. Some of the evaluations may be more subjective, depending on the price-to-value proposition.

@jkuvakas  Yes, John, it will be a long-term project, and I will add the brands you suggested, as well.  I also found a new one - for me - Paragon, and I see they make some very impressive Rolls Royce Phantoms from days gone by.  They are a bit pricey, but quality is not cheap, is it?

@gdh Paragon models are on par with Norev.  That is, some are better than others.    Paragon is a cut above "good."    Make sense?     Better (greater fidelity ) Rolls Royce replicas are produced by Kyosho.

I have no interest in Kyosho's late model Rolls Royces, which seem to be in abundance, but I did find two that caught my eye.  The cost for each, after shipping/tax/customs fees (where applicable) would put the prices for most of what I found so far between 300-400 Euros.   A healthy price tag for any hobby.  But, the detail...

Kyosho 1 18 1927 RR PH I

@jkuvakas I would also add Madison, MiniMarque and Victory.

I understand.....   I do like Paragon's 1964 - it's very stately!
