Modern cars today have so many automatic systems they piratically drive themselves, which us older people do not care for BUT, most people today actually don't know how to really drive and thus all the modern equipment is necessary. Age I agree with Bob Jackman completely.

@georgeschire I couldn't disagree more. Putting an arbitrary age on anything is just wrong as there are old people at 21 and young people at 90. IMO people should be tested each time they renew their drivers license to see if they are capable and alert enough to be driving a vehicle.

As I said Mr. Jackman, I know I'm in the minority on this one.

Using your rationale, "putting an arbitrary age on anything is wrong", it would imply that a 5 year old should be able to get a license.  And with regard to "tested each time they renew their drivers license", I think it's safe to say that everyone that is tested and "passes", certainly isn't automatically a "good driver".  We see evidence of that every day on our roads with drivers doing many things they were not shown during a drivers test.

Being fair, NONE of us is a perfect driver, regardless of age or how long we've been driving.  NONE of us!  And your analogy of "there are old people at 21 and young people at 90" is a cop-out based on which end of the age spectrum one is on.

Unrelated, but for comparison purposes, our U. S. constitution declares that to be president, one has to be the minimum age of 35.  But again, there is no "maximum age" on the other end, AND THERE SHOULD BE.

Anyway, agree or disagree, we are blessed to be able to have "our opinions".  You know I have the utmost respect for you!

Age relative to mental acuity and medical fitness varies so very much; especially after age 60.  For this reason it seems only fair to test every few years, perhaps on a graduated frequency scale, as a person ages.
