wow! I love that GTO, but to me, the Mercury out-cools it. I'm a sucker for a nice-looking fastback!

I went with the Merc in spite of it non-muscle color.  I remember how disappointed I was with the complete change of this GTO from the previous few years, which remain my favorites of the marque.  GM did tweak it a bit in '69 though, which made quite a difference.

I thought all '68 GTOs came with the Endura front bumper?  Could it be the Endura bumper was damaged and unavailable, so a LeMans bumper and grill were substituted?  In spite of the front end, I'll go with the GTO

I've had earlier versions of each car - a 67 Cyclone GT and a 64 GTO. First off, Pete is 100% correct; the 68 GTO had the plastic front bumper, not metal/chrome. I actually dislike each of these two cars for 68 but am going with the Merc because of the GTO roofline and vinyl top.

You guys already know my answer, lol. Pete, you could actually get the GTO with the chrome bumper, very few did and it was a rare, (code 674), factory-order "Endura Delete" option. Thanks John for another great Pontiac. 😊

GTO. It looks sophisticated compared to the Mercury.

Retired in Dunedin, Florida.

Tie. I found it hard to come out and say I liked one more than the other. I have always liked a fastback but I am not to crazy about the grill or the color on/of the Mercury. To me the firebird like grill and vinyl roof on the GTO are disappointing.

Neither of these are favorites of mine but based strictly on looks, the Mercury wins.

Not a fan of fastbacks, and totally dislike the GTO's after the great '65 - '67's. I'll take the Mercury over the GTO.  Bought a Coronet Super Bee in '68 and loved it.

I went with the Merc.  It reminds me of the 66-67 Dodge Charger which are my favorites.

I looked and I typed.  PONTIAC!  Not a fan of the "fastback" roof-line on any car and for my taste there were too many of them during the muscle car era.

GTO please John. Both choices are great here but the Pontiac appeals to me more.

Agreed, the front end styling of the Merc isn't too pleasing. To me anyway, I like the rest of the styling, but my Pontiac-centricity overules here, lol.😁
