Poor Nigel caught again. When he bought the car he thought MG stood for mighty good. He will pay dearly for his traitorous thoughts. Thanks David for these wonderful insightful strips.
They were so reminiscent of the British Sports cars of the 60's. That was what they were designed to emulate I believe. My wife and I owned four of them.
Two were matching silver 1999's, mine in 6 speed, hers in a rare auto. Both were the Leather Package. We traded both in on Crystal Blue 2001's. Hers auto, mine 6 speed. Same package again. Can't find pics of the silver ones but here's the blue ones:
The Mazda Miata is IMHO another perfect example of the Japanese taking a British car/car concept and improving it to the endth degree. I think the Miata is about the best/most reliable sports car ever made in its price range.
Here are the two that I have owned. Both are NAs with the 1.8 litre engines and 5 speed transmissions. The first is a 1996 standard black cloth version, bought new. Took this 14,000 miles throuout the American west, top down all the way. Lifetime trip from Ontario, Canada.
My current car is a 1994 version with tan leather interior and all available options. My brother John bought this new and I acquired it in 2006 when he bought a NC version with the power hard top. My 1996 by then had 170 k on it. This 94 is currently at 119,000 kilometres. No Winters. No repairs, only oil changes for last four years. Heaven to drive.
