Ford/Mercury had a terrific line of cars in 1969.  I worked at Suburban Motors Mercury Lincoln in Victoria then as a junior service lad and got to drive most of them.  What a treat.

Against the Chevelle/Malibu and Belvedere/Satellite competition, a distant third, IMHO. Maybe even fourth, behind the AMC Rebel!

Great Ford cars and terrific commercials ! '69 produced some fantastic automobiles.

Some things just don't age well. Cute but extremely corny at this point with the exception of the racing footage. Cool definitely has changed, as have those dress and hair styles.

Highlight for me was the retake on 'The Graduate'. The period TV parodies certainly caught attention. Cars are interesting and have aged better than the advertising.

Maverick might be an exception which might generate a few more comments.

Thanks JK.

Mid- size/intermediate size in my opinion for '69:

1. Charger

2. Coronet

3. Fairlane/Torino

4.  Chevelle

5. Rebel

Don't care for the others Styling in '69. Buick, Olds, Plymouth, and Pontiac.

The cars were cool and some still are.   Those preppy turtle neck and matching blazers group was never cool.
