@graeme-ogg I actually spent time considering how much difference just a minor trim off the tail made. I thought that an amount of rear trim somewhere between the two images shown might be just perfect. It's amazing how much difference an inch makes in overall effect in car design.

I had another go at it, but to my eye something between the original and my "Crop 1" would hardly be enough to improve the over-long appearance. I chose instead to take another couple of inches off (Crop 2).
But I'd go for the middle version as the best visual balance.
Well, I noticed a couple of people saying the tail looked a little long so I thought I'd experiment!
Of course, the long tail could always be balanced by extending the nose . . .
but I expect there would be cries of protest from Packard lovers. "Why don't you just leave it ALONE, you half-wit?"
Oh, and while I'm about it, here's another tail that struck me as excessively long, so I reduced the body length and wheelbase to give a somewhat trimmer appearance without reducing passenger space, although there might be a tad less room for stowing dead bodies in the trunk.
Now the Poncho fans will be after my blood as well. Do your worst, lads.

Influenced, I'm sure, by today's standards, I thoroughly love and admire the shorter versions; Crop 2, above, on the Packard and the shortened version of the Pontiac, here.
We came to appreciate the longer, more bolder cars back then but the latest design studios have crammed more into a shorter footprint. This way, to my eye, they are more speedboat-ish and less yacht-like.
