"Does it need that many lights?"

Yes, yes it does...   somewhat common today.  Modern headlights, as seen on this Mustang, use a dual-domain lighting control modules: one for low-beam/high-beam functions, and another dedicated to signature lighting, DRL sequencing & adaptive cornering.

Factory units integrate S650-LIDAR-assisted glare suppression and automatic beam leveling tied directly to the vehicle’s suspension sensors, known as LED DRLs.

When Studebaker was a client of my Dad's, our family had a 1963 Studebaker Wagoneer station wagon with the sliding/opening rear- most section. You couldn't get cooler than that in 1963. Plus, some of their wagons, I believe, could be special-ordered with R3 and R4 V-8 engines with Andy Granetelli-engineered "STP" motors.

I also think Chevrolet made a high-powered 2-door Chevelle wagon during this time that was quite powerful, so people would dismiss it as "just a family station-/wagon" at their own risk out at a stop-light, lol !
