Very interesting, John ! I think perhaps it could work and if it increased sales of the Monte Carlo that's good. I would probably still prefer the 2 door coupe, as that is the classic Monte Carlo look.

I think it looks pretty nice, but the question GM had at that time was, "Is it really needed?"   The answer was, "No."   Personal luxury coupes were in vogue and Chevrolet needed an entry to compete with the Grand Prix, Thunderbird, Rivera, Cougar, Tornado, Eldorado, Mark III, etc...

During this time period GM had plenty of four door hardtops in every division. Doing a Monte Carlo seems unnecessary IMO.
