The stunning Riviera of this design era is one of those cars that IMHO can only be presented as a sports coupe/HT.

This is the second Riviera wagon that has been posted here. The previous one was an Olds Vista Cruiser clone. And both of them lost too much of the original sharp-edged Riviera look to be plausible.

Last time around I posted my own rough-and-ready attempt to create a wagon that retained more of the Riviera style. Needless to say, given that the Riviera design is not to be messed around with, it was greeted with a deafening silence. But I am defiant, and I thought it looked OK, so here it is again (with tiny detail improvements).

Hello. Was that the sound of one hand clapping? Or perhaps it was just lips being pressed together in silent irritation.

I guess I am the odd one here.  I like the Riviera wagon as shown by John.  I think it would have been a great seller for Buick.

Me too! (but you’re still odd…)

Graeme, while I liked the Vista Riviera, I agree it lost much of its Riviera-ness. Your proposal manages to retain most of it. I suspect the design of the rear end would be problematic in that respect.

Well, as station wagons go it isn't actually ugly in itself. It's just that apart from the front end it doesn't reflect the styling aesthetic of the original in any way.

It somehow reminds me of the Bentley Provenance estate by Jankel, based on the Bentley Turbo R. Maybe a little too boxy in the rear end, but it is rather more consistent with the original sedan style.

Jankel.provence.1

(If that appeals to you, GLM did a 1:43 version of the very similar Val d'Isere estate, also created by Jankel.)

It may have been  the sound of my thumb pumping and pointing down...jus sayin...
