I like it! I think it would have sold well.
Muscle for heavy hauling - but still sporty, especially the painted wheel arch.
I hate to admit it, but I like it. My only problem then, as it still is today, is I've never understand people buying luxury SUV's and trucks. Both are for hauling anything and everything, and that's why we have Chevy, Ford, and Dodge trucks. So though that 4-4-2 Oldsmobile is cool looking, I think a cheaper El Camino would be better to buy. Just my opinion folks.

@georgeschire - Then why by any upscale product when the lowest price version will provide the same result?

Maybe this was Dr. Oldsmobile's personal ride !

LOL, yes that point could be made. But regarding the trucks and huge SUV's, my point was that if people are going to be hauling "stuff", which is the purpose of a truck for sure, why pay such an expensive price for something that is meant for that purpose when good Chevy/Ford/Dodge would serve the purpose well. As another example, here is something I've seen a few times...a decked out expensive Cadillac Escalade and the guys hauling lumber or other dirty stuff in it. Sorry, but to my thinking, that doesn't make any sense.

Interesting point, George. I think it's safe to assume that trucks and SUVs have radically changed regarding their purpose. While the very basic models serve as practical tools and appliances, the more expensive ones are geared toward comfort and prestige. This is why you can buy a bare-bones F-150 or choose a King Ranch. I don't think the King Ranch buyer or the guy who buys a Bentley Bentayga is worrying about hauling stuff to the dump. They're looking for what the buyers of Cadillacs and Lincolns were looking for in the fifties and sixties. None of those guys were looking for basic transportation, They wanted to make a statement.

I agree JK. Also many buyers look for improved access/egress and driver perspective and to perhaps a lesser degree all-wheel drive and higher clearance for inclement weather. These are significant factors for me and dictate that I will remain an SUV owner from this point on.

Why I buy SUVs and Pick-ups.
I do not like the Olds in question; access/egress and doesn't carry enough cargo or people to be practical for what I think of as needs .

Jack Dodds should get credit for the quote, not me.
