We have a stretch of RT 211 that is incredibly curvey just north of our town. It's filled with switchbacks, off-camber corners, and hairpin curves that can offer a real challenge and get your adrenaline pumping. It winds its way up to the Blue Ridge Parkway then dives down into the Shenandoah Vallet for about 5 miles, then ascends the next set of peaks. It's a good hour and a half out to RT 81 where you can take 81 and 66 back to town or just turn around and do it again, this time in the opposite direction. All in all, it's a great morning or afternoon drive that can be a lot of fun for the driver and offers some beautiful scenery for the navigator. Kelly tells me she's never seen the scenery because she's too busy holding on and shutting her eyes!! 😱Â
Here's what it looks like most of the way.Â

...........you have a treasure there that would be on anyone`s list for a fine drive in a car that handles well.......I`ve lost the appreciation for a leisurely drive,an inevitable consequence of going pro.....
.....for scenic beauty, the mountains of Arkansas heading north into Springdale, heading East towards the coast in Nova Scotia as dawn breaks,an overhead sighting of Lake Shasta in the California mountains, headed West across Arizona, watching the effects of the sunrise behind you,as it reveals the mountains ahead ,crossing the Bayous in Louisiana when the morning mist is still on the water,a crisp cool morning in Wyoming, little antelope standing at the roadside, doing their own woolgathering
I like blue ridge parkway and skyline drive as well as colonial parkway in and around Williamsburg and Yorktown VA. Â

I live in Maryville (pronounced Mur-a-vul) Tennessee, less than a 1/4 mile off Highway 129. It is also known as the "Tail of the Dragon". World famous to motorcycle groups, race clubs and multi-sportscar clubs, it boasts 318 curves (up, down & side to side) in 11 miles - from Maryville, TN. to Deals Gap, N.C.
Â
Â
I have 'run' the Dragon as part of my RAGS (Roadster Association of the Great Smokies) Miata Club, when I owned four of those little beauties, to the East Tennessee Corvette Owners and Z06 Group Club to the MBCA (Mercedes Benz Club of America). Porsche, Ferrari and Lamborghini use it for testing and their respective clubs have annual outings here. Nearby Cherohala Skyway is also a cycle and sports car magnet.
Â
@perrone1, I took my Miata down to run this route. It is amazing and was worth the 10-hour drive to get there. Â

I agreed with Frank about the Blue Ridge Parkway; it's a national treasure!  Of course, I live just a few miles off it, near the southern end. Too often it's those sites close to home that we just take for granted and don't visit often enough.
and even closer to home is Whitewater Falls, just off the Parkway:
 C'mon on down to Brevard,NC!  It's a nice drive!  David H

Too many crazies on the road, no such thing as a relaxing daytime drive. I love driving the Vette through twisties, but that's fun, not relaxing.Â
