This 1911 Overland Octoauto has wooden wheels. The history behind this car and Milton Reeve's "sister version" (a six-wheel version) is fascinating. The odd looking wheel arrangement was based on smooth riding Pullman railroad cars which utilized 4-wheel "trucks." This car was highly praised at the time for its supreme ride comfort. Sadly, Reeves never received any orders to build any (the price was way too high). Milton Reeves (and his brother) were multimillionaires, therefore gambling on such extreme auto designs (without any sales) could be classified, really, as engineering experimentation rather than a failed business model.
Thank you Chris,
been after information on this car for the last week or so, ordered one by Autocult from a dealer in the Netherlands and have been trying to find another collector who had one and could tell me if the wheels and tires were removable possibly for painting.
Well now it's my turn to thank you Larry.... I didn't realize there was a scale model of this. I'll have to check that out. 😀
Ya,afraid that be a bit beyond this old guys skill!☺️
