The valuation of the company stands at $844.5 Billion!  That's not far from a $1 Trillion valuation which is worth more than GM, Ford, and Chrysler COMBINED!  I got in early at around $174/share.  I suppose it offsets one of the stock pigs I purchased where I lost my shirt!  LOL!  Also, Tesla is on pace to sell 1 million vehicles this year.

All great news Marty and Tesla's "good times" should continue on into next year but with SEVERAL automakers poised to go "all in" on EVs, Telsa's reign will be diminished. Just remember the old adage: "You gotta know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em...."

I'm aware of your savvy skills (..and your $1,000 suits HA!) and your market prowess; I'm just trying to ensure I don't ever see you slowly pushing a Kroger shopping cart late at night through Stockton or Emeryville.  Wink

@chris - Savvy?  Ha!  My current portfolio appears to be suggesting something other than "savvy."  Still, that Tesla windfall will come in handy when the C8 arrives.  It's gotta be paid for with something other than wishin' and hopin'!  LOL!

The picture in David Green's Titanic post pretty much sums up the stock market and me.

About 25 years ago, as a stock investor neophyte, I decided to enter the penny stock market without having any idea what it was all about.  The hype got me. During that time I quickly bought shares in a video production company, an airless tire company, an energy company and one other whose name I happily can't remember.   (THEN) I did an analysis of those companys and discovered that they appeared to be worthless.  When I posted this on a couple of penny stock boards I was on I was thrown off the boards that were (unbeknownst to me) comprised of pumpers and dumpers.  Since there was no market for the stocks I rode them painfully down to zero.  That was a couple thousand bucks in total.

About that time a good friend of mine, who I trusted and respected, strongly suggested I buy some stock in a company that had government contracts to detect bombs merely by the (whatever) the bombs emitted.  My friend was heavily invested as he was good friends with a principle of the company.  I bought some stock from his wealthy friend in a private sale at a breakfast meeting in a nice restaurant - fifteen thousand dollars worth and later I invested another eight thousand bucks with him. The rich guy was accompanied by his stock broker who vouched for him.  When I later contacted Paine Webber I discovered that the stock broker was a phony.  So was my friend's rich friend and as it turned out so was . . . my good friend.

Long story short ... The president of the company received a stiff fine and was not allowed to go into the stock market any more and my friend's wealthy friend paid the government a $250,000 fine for pumping and dumping as did the others involved.   My (ex) friend, who was just as guilty as the rest filed bankruptcy.  And, of course . . .

I lost all of my money - which was hard earned.

But the story doesn't stop there.

There was a fund set up for suckers like me.  I contacted the administrator of the fund, the FBI and the attorney general's office to file a claim and press charges.  I was told that since I bought my stock in a private sale there was no record of the sale and nothing could be done.  I couldn't even file a complaint that would be considered.  I never received the stock certificates.  I did get photocopies 🙁

Thank God I didn't get into the day trading market, which I also had my eyes on.

I've never reconsidered the stock market since that time.

@kocour - Kudos to you for your honesty and courage.  Have you noticed that when most people talk about stock trading, it's almost always about the positions that did well?  It is rare that anyone talks about the positions that bombed!  From my perspective, you deserve credit for admitting past mistakes.  You ain't alone!  If one plays in this game, there are winners AND losers.

And speaking of being honest, I'll admit to a bit of trolling with this Tesla topic.  There's a member here that years ago we had an ongoing debate about the fortunes of Tesla and his impression of the folly of investing with them.  I posted this as a playful "dig" directed at the person in question.  I couldn't resist the temptation of, "I told you so!"

Selling Tesla stock to pay for a C-8 Corvette?  I LOVE it!  Good for you!
