I’m the lucky one. When I was around 12 years old my friend Frankie and I were taking a “short cut” over a railroad bridge. We were in the middle of it when we heard the unmistakable sound of a train coming around the bend behind us.
it was just like the scene in “Stand by me” we ran as fast as those cross ties would allow and jumped just as the Alaska Railroad freighter was on us, the screaming whistle blasting.

I had a similar experience in a train tunnel in Yorkshire as a child. Managed to find a small cleft in the tunnel sidewall just in time.
