@chav Thanks. ALL my "mod-posts"Β went directly to the corresponding scale Forums. Now that John has created this particular topic-thread, I'll be posting here...like you!
Your car hauler is incredible!Β I thought I was looking at the real thing, right down to the '58 Fords sans hubcaps/wheel covers.Β Excellent work!
Thank you Pete.Β The link I provided explains why I had to have "rims,"Β but basically it's because that's the way it was done! So many hauler models simple have cars just sitting on the carrier-trailer... which just isn't accurate.Β
All 16 rims were resin cast from molds I developed, as I could not find scale 14" late 1950's Ford steelie-rims. 1958 Fords used 14" wheels (and yes, the wheelscovers do fitperfectly ).Β For about 5 days I was a 1/18 scale 1958 Ford rim manufacture!
Like the other comments, the car hauler looks great. What other enhancements do you plan for it? Β I cannot imagine any additional enhancements it needs.
Thanks Ed. Well, what should happen next is the 1956 hauler needs to weathered (it's simply too clean ) then the fabrication of side glass & chrome surrounds for ALL open windows (new cars are NOT transported with open windows ) then, small stickers & window inventory-writing detail must be applied to certain windows of all four Fords, then scale chain must be used to anchor down all four cars....then I'll be finished.
I have all the supplies/material....I'm just lazy! π πΒ

Amazing Chris !Β
Do you ever find / have time to work a paying job ? Or are you retired ?
thanks for the link Christopher. Spent a bit of time going over it. Remarkable skill and patience on show. Somehow I have to learn patience. (at 73?!). Once I start on a kit I just cant wait to get it finished. π
Once I start on a kit I just cant wait to get it finished.
Thanks!
I learned a long, long time ago that NO ONE ON EARTH cares how fast you can build a model, but EVERYONE cares about how it looks. The old adage, "Haste makes waste,"Β should be a big & bold mandatory printed statement on every model box.Β
Furthermore, "Patience is a virtue, seldom found in men and never found in women."Β Β

Good luck Geoff. π π Β
great advise, thanks Christopher. Absolutely nothing to do with our topic but your last comment somehow reminded me of a wonderful W.C, Fields line. "It was a woman who drove me to drink, I never wrote to thank her!"
Thanks Steve. Perhaps I mis-phrased my comment. What I tried to say was that my "winning 1st place 1/25 model ...beating out submissions from two high schools...can't compare to what 1/25 modelers are doing today."
Despite being lucky enough to have my 1/18 diecast projects featured in magazines, I haven't entered a model contest in decades. If/when I finish up my 1/18 1956 Ford COE car hauler project... I might enter that.Β Stay tuned....
Again, thanks for the compliments.
This amazing car hauler certainly is definitely show worthy....I LOVE it.
@marty-johnson Folks, it was at the behestΒ Β of my dear friend, Marlowe, that this 1/18 1953 hauler eventually ended up in a magazine......along with HIS CUSTOM BUILT 1/18 DIECAST race car HAULER!!Β Also, his ONE-OF-A-KIND, 1/18 period-correct, vintage gassers & funny cars are worthy of a museum display. Here are just a few examples; he has MANY MORE!
