Good kit, few difficulties, plastic surface did not like yellow paint and the windscreen was hell to attach. All in all comes up pretty well.

I blackwashed the grey plastic colored engine and I reckon its come up well, almost a cast iron engine block look!

Lots of yellow Rolls around so color choice is fine.

Nice work, particularly on that engine!

A fine job on this one, Geoff. It is a beautiful car and model of it. The picture of the real RR yellow automobile reminds me of the Goldfinger-James Bond replica I have. All that is needed is OddJob throwing his deadly hat !

Very nice work on this model. I made many Monogram models, and they were among the best plastic kits I built.

A fine looking Coaster.  It has the light, breezy feel of Springfield (Massachusetts) Rolls, which would make it the final production year, Phantom I.  Otherwise, it would be Derby export Phantom II. Do we know?

thanks for the question Charles, appreciate your wonderful knowledge of automotive history.

This is all the info that Monogram included with the Phaeton.

Monogram have also made a really nice roadster which I'm still to finish. It clearly states it is Springfield Rolls.

Thinking you maybe interested in my attempt to make Bugatti Royale chassis no.41121 in its original color scheme. I've posted a pick of the version I have in Charles Chaynes oyster white. I believe there are no color photos available of the original scheme so I'm following this large scale model color lead.

Glad I've just done this! Looks like I'm a bit off with the canvas roof color. And I dont really have any choice but to include Chaynes engine "a brand-new intake manifold with four carburetors, instead of the original single carb setup"

@geoff-jowett Looking at my Hachette 1/43 Nº 41121 Royale, the roof seems closer in tone to your own than that photographed, though there seems little in it. It remains a magnificent piece of modelling work. Pity he changed the engine, but I guess at that time they didn't think these cars would be considered priceless masterpieces.

thanks Charles, I will leave the roof as it is. Its actually a great kit, highly detailed, and time consuming! Hopefully will come out OK.

I'd love to have a go at turning this into the Coupé de ville Binder, chassis 41111. Need to fill in the 'sunroof' create windscreen and side windows and change door handles at least. one day!

@geoff-jowett  The Coupe Napoleon Nº 41100 - must be the best starting point for the Binder Sedanca de Ville. I have just spent some while trying to fix a damaged Aurora Models 1/43 as the Binder is hard to find in that scale.  I'm not familiar with the details, but having seen photographs of it from many decades, to me its key features are the red paint underneath the fenders with matching red 'badge bar' at the front; the red coach-lining on the wheels and the flying quarter lights. Finally, there is a striking angle on the inner side of the front fender that fans upwards from the engine cowl then sharply rises into the curve of the fender - Subtle stuff ! !

P.S. You may see from the original black & white below that the Weinberger Royale does have a rather muted putty toned roof. It does not appear to my eye to be light....

thanks Charles, I've saved those pics.  Great info. A couple of the tasks are beyond me, the red wheel coach lining and even the the accuracy of the curve on the silver painted body section. I'm doing a Masters at a local uni and they teach graphic artistry type courses so I'm thinking I'll put out a call to one of the students. I think I'm OK with wooden interior sections though. Heres the 'faux timber' dash I've painted for 41111. I'm actually missing a couple of parts from the kit, a chrome running board piece and a tyre so I'm looking for another kit to finish it. Kits are plentiful and inexpensive, but postage is not! And I'm happy to have an extra spare Royale kit for when I tackle the Binder Sedanca de Ville. Thanks again for your insightful responses.

@geoff-jowett When trying to renovate my 1/43 I considered round, self-adhesive red labels and possibly cutting-out an outer ring with a scalpel for the wheels, but in 1/43 the rings would be too small and the slightest error would show. Plus I do not have a steady hand with detailed work.  This is what makes this site, and seeing such skilled model-work such as yours and many others who come to mind, such a joy to admire.

@charles-rockett thanks Charles, but I've got a long way to go to catch up to some of the guys around here! Next week I should finish 41121 to where I only need the missing spare wheel tyre and the chrome running boards, I'll post a couple of pics.

Cant really go much further than this for now Charles. Although I'm kind of feeling I've only done half a job with the Chaynes engine in there.

@charles-rockett

Good shots. Such a magnificent and massive car in person. I photo'ed it at Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance 50th Anniversary 2000.
