Here are some pictures of the Annual Report for Diamond-T trucks in 1953. This was among the items I still have from my Grandfather who was Assistant Chief Engineer there until his death in late 1957. My Uncle John Danielson was Secretary there at that time, also.

Independent truck manufacturers were having a challenging time after the government and military orders during WW II and the Korean War. The cover of this report shows a really good-looking truck for Jewel Food Stores making a delivery somewhere here in the area. In the background a couple of automobiles are parked on the lot. I think a DeSoto and a ?

wonderful piece of vehicle memorabilia Mike. If only todays annual reports were so simple. "Cash dividends on common stock. $421259" Wonder if they were listed, or the dividends went to private shareholders?

Very good points ! Now days it seems that people may almost need an accounting degree to interpret annual reports.

I had heard the story, perhaps apocryphal,   that 40 different tax forms were done by 40 different qualified accountants and then submitted ........ and that 39 were different in some way than the other !

Personally I have no time for apocryphalness.  There was a period of time  last year when apocryphality crept into our Forum.  It surrounded the existence of our Forum Quiz Grande Prize Trabant 1-HP SS Demi Coupe.  JK and I, as quasi-professional designers/artistes, were initially incensed but after much discussion decided to forgive and forget as we realized our prize would inevitably cause jealousy and apocryphaliacs to challenge the creative magic of our design.  For those Forum newcomers in the past year I attach a pic of said prize.  This one was taken at our proving grounds high speed circuit in Germany, testing frame rigidity.

@geoff-jowett Well we originally only had one in mind for the Forum Quiz Grande Prize, but after hearing that a large percentage of the public were raving about it we began to consider mass production.  However we ultimately decided against the venture for two reasons.  Firstly, the raving public were found to exclusively be members of the SPCA who were upset when our test mule power plant expired from a heart attack on the high speed test circuit and secondly both JK and I received mailed threats from the Big 3 car companies, who understandably felt threatened by our sporty design.  Now we know how Preston Tucker felt back in the day.

Creative accounting? Goes to show there is more than one way to skin a cat. BTW, no cats were harmed during this exercise. Smile

You're welcome Geoff...at least I think you are....what does erudite mean?  Yes it was in fact a direct quote from JK, in his position of company reclinerperson.

@geoff-jowett Interesting Geoff.  I'll be glued to my computer until my research is complete and I can speak knowledgeably about it.  I may be a while.
