There is nothing more insidious for replica model automobiles of any scale than dust ! It can even sometimes gather on apparently reasonably closed shelves with car (or other) displays.

Here is a device meant basically for cleaning and dusting delicate photographic equipment. It also works well for models. It looks like a black rocketship but it is a bulb that can be squeezed to produce a powerful jet of air that can be controlled and directed where needed on a model or object.

Lol, it may look a bit like that, but it is actually made by Giotto for dusting photographic (or other) items. It works well and helps with some of the dust problems with both lenses and models. Very fine makeup brushes can be used to dust off models, too. You just have to be secure enough to go into the makeup department and get the right brushes !

great suggestion, thanks Mike. Actually I just took a few models out for pics for the 1/24 forum. They have been in my showcases and displays cases for nearly 2 and a half years and no dust. I had the cases custom made and one of my criteria was dust proofing, money well spent.

That's excellent, Geoff ! Having truly well made and essentially dust-proof display cases are quite worth it in avoiding any build up. The cases really show off the replicas ideally, too.

I have one of those photo puffers I've used for getting dust out of the innards of a camera, but have never used it on models. I have a couple of makeup brushes (about 4 inches long), very light and soft, and they are terrific on models, removing dust without harming delicate mirrors or wipers or catching on trim pieces. Highly recommended. If the shop assistant gives you a funny look, just tell her you are still on the transgender medication course and haven't fully transitioned yet, but you want to get a bit of practice with the blusher.

All those delicate makeup-type brushes would work great with replicas. However, if you are doing a barn-find type display with your models, you can leave the "authentic" dust in place and "as-is", lol ! Wink

That is a very good practice; by doing so you never have a reason to blush........doh.....I mean..... embarrass yourself.
