I just got around to repairing my DM ‘33 Ford Cabriolet. A few months ago I managed to knock one of the cowl lights off while moving it. I’ve been putting it off because I dread working with tiny parts, but I felt relatively calm today so I ended up doing just fine. Long story kind of shorter, I got to looking over the model and started to appreciate for the first time how gorgeous it is. All of the little details and just the overall look of it made me keep exploring. I don’t recall ever reading or hearing that this model was in anyway special, but something about it struck a nerve with me. Sorry if I’ve bored you, just wanted to share and get thoughts.
I agree this is one beautiful model. I love this car in stock or custom form, convertible or coupe; it has great lines.
@jack-dodds I agree Jack, I’ve always thought that the ‘33-‘34’s were one of the most well proportioned, sleekest design of that era. Very weird that I never noticed the greatness of the DM til now!
The trunk is very, very nice and well executed, but I think the model looks better without it.
...well, for me it's all about THOSE wheels! Without question, some of the best wire rims ever mass produced in ANY scale. The model is very nice, but the wheels make it pop! 😎 😉 😎
Count me in too. Way up there IMHO. My favorite area is the dash, beautiful lifelike woodgrain. Great model to feature, thanks Kevin
It was the darling of the boards and subject to lots of positive talk when first issued. Lots of pics and nary any criticism.
It is a great-looking automobile and makes a wonderful replica ! Glad it is repaired and back with the fleet.
@michaeldetorrice Thanks Michael, I bought this model some time ago knowing it was missing the up-top. Doe’s anyone know of a place to get missing or spare parts? I’ve run out of ideas.
I am not sure of any particular source for the missing part but it might be possible to get a source that could utilize a 3-D printer to fabricate the needed item for you.
The future could eventually be wide open in this regard for parts or an entire vehicle in various scales.
"...it was missing the up-top. Doe’s anyone know of a place to get missing or spare parts?"
LSS: Your best bet and really only pragmatic hope Kevins (and I know you won't like it much ) is to simply buy another complete model, pirate all the parts you need then sell off ANYTHING "leftover." 😏
Have it, love it. All of these thirties Ford models are a high light of my collection. Glad the cowl light fix was successful Kevin.
@bob-jackman Thanks Bob, finding the light after I flicked it off was the hardest part, and an adventure in its’s self! I almost gave up figuring it was a lost cause, but was able to eventually able to find it. Most of my models are ‘30’s, early 40’s Fords. True American classics.
@kevins When I have repairs on my models, I sit at the table in the breakfast room because the floor is an off white ceramic tile and when, not if, I drop a part it is somewhat easier to find.
