@chris............ your efforts are putting decent, hard working plastic Americans to work.......even without the fascinating progress updates, that alone fries the bacon π€©
.......brilliant imaginative work Christopher !!!
Thanks John, but all this laborΒ Β has really just begun.Β It's analogous to an engine block manufacturing operation whereas all raw castings must then be machined.Β That's the next phase.... all 32 pieces (4 X 2) X 4 = 32Β must now be "machined"Β to specs. Then cleaned, then primed, then pained, then tires mounted, so on and so on....
"..brillant?"Β Not really.Β "Lunacy?"Β Without question! π π π€ͺ π€ͺΒ
We expect nothing less !!
@100ford2003 ...... all I can do is my very best. "Fingers crossed!"Β π π
Wow, such detail. Thanks for sharing the status with us Chris.
@bob-jackman Thanks Bob. I enjoy keeping people in the loopΒ because I like updates from other scale modelers/collectors. We all learn from each other. π
More from the 1/18 1958 Ford RESIN STEEL RIM FACTORY:
I completed all the cleaning & "machining"Β on all four rim sets. I used jigs to ensure uniformity. The irony is that once Sunstar's beautifully cast full wheelcovers are removed, color matched rims are exposed...but sadly they don't look like "steelies."Β
Next, I had to modify all 16 spindles. Then I moved on to color-matching & paint samples. Finally, I completed the black Ford first just to weed out any unforeseen problems (which always occur!Β ).Β I theorized that "black"Β would better hide any mistakes. The remaining colors are lighter.

It looks great ! The steel rims are excellent and this great SunStar hardtop 1958 Ford in combination with the COE auto hauler is a superb display as well as photo subject.
Holy Moly Guacamole...what have we here... !?!?Β
I'm on 24 / 7 'n not losing out...Β
ππππΊπΈΒ
@mikedetorrice Thanks, let's hope this all turns out as planned. "Fingers crossed."
@100ford2003 Well at least someone is on 24/7 ....'cause I'm not!Β My goal is to create a realistic looking vintage car hauler, which means "the load"Β must look like new cars... no wheelcovers, rolled up windows, a few stickers & handwritten numbers here & there, no license plates, etc...
I'm sick of seeing scale car haulers where the model cars are just placed on the hauler.... windows down, no stickers, wheelcovers, etc...
My home-made resin cast steelies turned out OK, but I've always hated doing things twice. If I make something for the RIGHT SIDE, for example, I must then duplicate it for the LEFT SIDE.
Now.......Β I have to do something 16 times!!Β (4 cars X 4 wheels!)Β Yikes!! π¬ π¬ π¬ π¬ π¬Β
A BIG THANKS for sweating the small stuff !!Β
Did you ever βοΈ out pics of the car hauler I mentioned awhile back ?
@100ford2003 Yes I did (I had seen it before ). Now THAT was a project but thank goodness they did it! That's literally a car show on wheels, and something really special to see today.
As someone with zero skills in this arena I find your craftsmanship AMAZING.Β Bravo!!
