The bullet-nosed Studebaker for 1951 was the butt of comedian's jokes for not looking like it was coming or going due to the unusually long sloping trunk deck. Unlike its lighter smaller brother, the Champion, it was 5-600 lbs heavier and, as standard, received a 232 cid OHV V8 that, with just a 6.5:1 compression ration produced 120 HP. This Raymond Loewy featured an unusual set of wrap-around windows offering a novel amount of glazing for back seat passengers. The 1951 facelift continued for one more year. The model is finished in Maui Blue (hence the license plates).
I like that a lot..
Yours just might be the best pictures of this model I've ever seen..... and WHY I haven't yet fabricated a convertible from one of these HW61's is beyond me! 🙄 😬 😳
Incredibly cool 1/18 diecast replica and one of the first of Highway 61's great line up. It looks magnificent here and I am delighted to have this same beautiful Maui blue H61 model.

Rich, your pictures are fabulous as always. I have always like the bullet nosed Studebakers from 1950 and 1951 especially the Star Light Coupes. I too have this model in my collection. Chris, DM did a convertible in 1/24 scale.
I absolutely love this model! Sadly, I never pulled the trigger on this one.
I love this model and the color is perfect.
@chris Looks great with the top down. You can appreciate the streamlining better.
...I guess I'm in the minority - I've yet to see a custom bullet-nose-Stude I like; they all look a bit janky to me. 😨
- Your position is not a surprise. You're a pure-stock kind of guy! LOL!...I guess I'm in the minority - I've yet to see a custom bullet-nose-Stude I like; they all look a bit janky to me. 😨
The cool thing is all that was required was to remove the front bumper and through some wheels and tires on it and you have a pretty cool custom. At least for those who like customized cars.
@chris I agree with you Chris. While I like some customs, they don't work for me on the Studies.
