Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins, one of the most famous Pr Stock racers of all time, played a key role in the initial formation of the "heads up" NHRA Pro stock class. His very first Pro Stock car was his 1968 Chevy Camaro Super Stock racer, which he converted to Pro Stock configuration by subtracting weight, adding 12.5" slicks and a dual quad tunnel ram set-up topped by a huge hood scoop. Don't let the fact that this was not a brand new race car mislead you, however. The white 1968 Camaro was Jenkins most successful race car, by far, and it won the very first NHRA Pro Stock national event at the 1970 Winter Nationals in Pomona, California. In fact the Camaro won a total of three Pro Stock events in just 15 days, and collected $30,000 in prize money in the process. It was a phenomenal performer in its day, turning in several high nine-second elapsed times in eliminations as it defeated other Pro Stockers with much larger engines.
This is a Lane Automotive Exact Detail car that was done exclusively for Supercar Collectibles.
A little more information on this car, it was originally built in late 1966 and is believed to possibly be the first Z/28 off the production line, the car went to Roger Penske and the body was acid dipped to lighten it, but Chevrolet did not think the car had the body integrity to withstand the twists and turns of road racing after the acid dip so the car was sold to Bill Jenkins as Chevrolet did not see an issue using it for drag racing. Bill Jenkins modified the car by adding side marker lights and removing the vent windows making the car a 1968 model.
So John....calling you "Grumpy" is not really an insult, is it? 😉 😉 😏 😏 (I suppose, one could also call you "Rampy" ..... I know, sorry... 😔 😔)
I don't know as that would be placing me pretty high on the mountain, I am just an old country boy who just likes to do things my way. I have never been the type to follow the crowd.
The only Grumpy's Toy missing is his Vega.
I could not find a Vega and the red and white Chevy II is very poorly done and looks like a cheap plastic toy. The all white Chevy II/Nova looks better but again I could not find one to purchase. I am satisfied with the four cars that I have.
