At the dawn of the "funny car", this A/FX 1965 Dodge Coronet Altered Wheelbase was probably the most well known and photographed of this "factory experimental" class. Known for it wild wheelies in exhibition, it was also a very successful drag car winning 38 of 40 match races during its tenure. It morphed quite a bit during its reign beginning with a 2X4 bbl set up and sporting the single headlamp grill and clear windows. Mid year in 1965, the fuel injection system was installed and Landy went off to a national tour. After the 1966 season the car was sold and passed through various hands and has been restored to the original single headlamp, clear window and tan interior configuration but with the fuel injection system. It's one of the few complete A/FX AWB Lightweights (acid dipped) left in existence.

Amazing to think of all the factory endorsed mods and the overall commitments the "Big 3" had back then. Yes, I know "sales" (the bottom line) was the true driving force but what a time it must have been to be a drag racing fan. Still (all these years later) an incredible model Rich. Thanks for the post. 😎 Â
PS
Always loved that wheelie.
@marty-johnson Dick looks pretty good in there.
